I have been using AIgym to train my RL agents. I am now trying to take advantage of the different difficulty settings that the ALE offers.

However I can't find a resource that explains which difficulty is 'easy' or 'hard'. The AIgym library accepts integer values [0,1,2...] to set the game difficulty, but based on my experience with Pong, the difficulty of [0] seems to be herder than the difficulty of [1], so the difficulty settings are not sorted in ascending order.

  • $\begingroup$ I guess the only way to find out, it play the games? For example for Pong, the 'default' setting gives paddles of equal size to the CPU and the AI agent. While setting '1' gives the CPU a smaller paddle. $\endgroup$ – Billy.G Nov 23 '20 at 10:09
