I do not have background in Artificial Intelligence related algorithms etc. But I have a scheduling problem that needs to be resolved.

For example, employees need to be scheduled for on call. They might be on vacation.

Can you guide as to what algorithms I need to look into, suitable for a beginner?

$\begingroup$ Are you looking for software that solves scheduling conflicts or for understanding of the algorithms that solve those problems. If its the latter, can you please rephrase your question? $\endgroup$ – Jaden Travnik Jan 19 '18 at 18:58

Scheduling can get quite complicated. It is fundamentally programming to find a solution given constraints. One approach would be to use MiniZinc, and here is a scheduling example. You can use other plain programming approaches such as Python and so on, but Minizinc is highly optimized and might well reward time invested in learning by finding a better solution more quickly.
