I'm writing a genetic program. I thought it would be better for children not to be paired with their parents, so you don't have the risk of different individuals having too much of the same genes (code). Does this make sense? What's better: to have more diverse individuals, or can parents be paired with their children, so the same (fit) code is distributed over more individuals? I'm not sure whether this is a discussion or question, I don't want to start a debate, but I wondered whether this is studied and if there is an answer to this question. I can provide more specifics of the use case or details about the program when needed.
