Dr. Snehal Patel is a molecular pathologist and cancer investigator. His interest in molecular and computational approaches to medicine began at Vanderbilt University, where he graduated with distinction in Mathematics and Biomedical Engineering in 2001. As a Medical Scholar at the University of Illinois, where he graduated in 2011 with an M.D. and Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Dr. Patel acquired the knowledge and skills to investigate the molecular basis of cancer. He went on to complete an Anatomic & Clinical Pathology residency in 2015 and Molecular Genetic Pathology fellowship in 2016 at Cedars-Sinai. During this part of his training, he gained in-depth knowledge of cancer biology and epidemiology, the clinical aspects of cancer diagnostics and treatment, the handling of cancer specimens, and the development, validation, and implementation of cutting-edge molecular diagnostic assays. Since his training, He has worked in government (NIH) and the private sector (Strata Oncology, SimBioSys) where he actively engaged in the care of cancer patients, participated in laboratory quality improvement committees, developed and validated molecular assays, helped ensure regulatory laboratory compliance, coded bioinformatics software tools, maintained an active publication record, and served on several national professional society committees. Dr. Patel's current research focuses on developing artificial intelligence technology to bring precision and efficiency to molecular diagnostic laboratory processes to provide the best patient experience.
